It has always been one of my dreams—as a hopeless Rem-antic (romantic, duh)—to take the love of my life to a fancy restaurant, share a good dinner over a glass of wine, and simply call it a perfect night.

Borro, located in Quezon City

From the moment I started making my move on Dani, I found myself planning every little detail: the where, the when, and the how.
I searched through countless posts across different social media platforms, entertaining every possible idea. There was the option of asking her while hiking a mountain, on a ride at an amusement park, during a concert of an artist we both loved, and many others.
But none of them ever felt quite right.
For one, I had never been on a hike before. The last thing I wanted was to be worrying about blisters, exhaustion, or getting lost while trying to ask the woman I loved to be my girlfriend. Concerts were another possibility, but most of the artists we both listened to were international acts.
Bruno Mars, if you're reading this somehow, please come back to the Philippines.
Then there was work.
Our professional responsibilities were taking their toll on both of us, each in our own way, in more ways than one could imagine. Because of that, I eventually realized that what I wanted wasn't a grand gesture. I wanted her to feel relaxed, at ease, and comfortable when I asked the question. More than that, I wanted her to feel safe—not just that evening, but for as long as she'd allow me to love her.
Then Borro appeared on my FYP.
One look at the place and I knew it was exactly what I had been looking for. It had this quiet elegance about it—stylish without trying too hard, intimate without feeling cramped. It felt like the kind of place where a life-changing question deserved to be asked.
Without wasting any time, I secured a reservation.
The only thing left was deciding on a date.
Truth be told, I didn't overthink it. Any day would've been perfect, as long as it was the day I'd ask her to be mine.
October 9.
As a Beatles fan, I couldn't help but smile knowing it was John Lennon's birthday.

With the reservation settled, I had one final task left: gathering enough courage to invite her.
One evening during one of our casual dinners together, I brought it up as naturally as I could.
"Would you like to have dinner with me?"
Thankfully, she said yes.
That already felt like half the battle.
All that remained was asking the question I'd been carrying with me for weeks.
The night finally arrived.
Once we were both ready, I booked us a ride to the restaurant. She laughed after seeing the destination. She laughed and said we could've just walked. The restaurant was barely five minutes from our project site.
That made her smile.
And somehow, that smile made me fall for her all over again.
If I haven't mentioned it already, she also looked absolutely beautiful that evening. Looking at her across the ride, I knew one thing for certain.
I couldn't mess this up.
After arriving at Borro, I gave our reservation details to the receptionist, and we were led upstairs to our table.
The restaurant was already bustling with people, yet somehow it still felt warm and intimate. We ended up with a wonderful table.
Although, if you asked me, I had the best seat in the house.
I was sitting beside her.
The warm lighting, the music softly filling the room, the conversations fading into the background—everything came together exactly as I had imagined. It was everything I had hoped that night would be.
I don't remember every dish we ordered anymore. Kare-kare was definitely there, along with a soup whose name escapes me, fried rice, and I think dessert came at the end.

Funny enough, the food was never what stayed with me.
What I remember most is watching her enjoy the evening, knowing that in just a few moments I'd be asking the question that could change both our lives.
After dinner had settled in, I reached into my bag and handed her a small gift box.
Inside was a pair of Morse code bracelets—one for her and one for me—with a message I hoped she would always carry with her.

She looked at me with that familiar curious expression, silently wondering what was inside.
I still remember the exact words I said.
"Will you be my girlfriend, Dani?"
To this day, it remains one of the most nerve-racking moments of my life—right up there with waiting for the results of my Mechanical Engineering board examinations.
Then she smiled.
And she said yes.
On that Wednesday night, the 9th of October, Dani and Rem officially became a couple.

Thank you, Borro.
Several months later, we found ourselves back at the same restaurant.

At the very same table where I asked her to be my girlfriend, we celebrated six months together. The food was different. Our hairstyles had changed.

But sitting there once again were the same two people who had chosen each other half a year earlier.
