Paper Year

In the next series of blog posts, along with this one, I will take you to what went on during our anniversaries, or love birthdays, as we call it.

It was April 1, 2017, and we just had our first year together. To be honest, it was not really easy but, hey, it was very worth it. The honeymoon stage really felt like a honeymoon with love overflowing, while also adjusting to the new things that we learned about each other.

Much like one year ago, we just had some misunderstanding before our first birthday. I had some personal flaws that she wanted me to rid, (which I still have as of writing and it's not something I should be proud of). We settled in and choose to stay with each other despite my wrongdoings, had our favorite, Burger King, and headed onto Ball Pit Manila in Makati City.

Ball Pit Manila had already caught our attention even months before our birthday and we really wanted to come and see what had been going viral in social media. Ball Pit Manila had this pool of white plastic balls that you could drown yourself into.

I made the reservations and when we went there, it met our expectations and we had a very good time feeling like a kid once again. As for me, I never experienced playing outdoors with neighbors, and other kids and that made the Ball Pit Manila moment a really enjoyable and memorable one since I don't really have a lot of memories playing happily and care-free with someone outside my family. I was happy that it had to be you, love.

Aside from the huge pool of balls, the murals and the ambiance of the place were really inviting. It had that innocent but very engaging feel to it. We also had the chance to play card games, and board games! The stay really made us feel like childhood friends turned classroom lovers.

After the events at Ball Pit Manila, we went on to a massage parlor called "Mont Albo Massage Hut" and had our first massage treatment together. Before the actual massaging, we were first scrubbed by the therapists. Then, the massaging that went on for about an hour really made us felt relaxed and free from all negative auras that could invade us. I just did not like it when they had to put massage oil between our fingers. That gave me a really irritating feeling. The finger massage did so, too. I kind of hated them.

However, I was with the love of my life so I just ignored everything and started to live in the moment. And I could feel that in that very moment, the presence of love was undoubtedly together with us. Forgotten was the earlier dispute.

Before going home, we went on to try a nearby "Sinangag Express" (a Tapsilogan) and it was good. Everything was going our way that night, and I could not be any happier. I bade her goodbye and kissed her in the forehead. Happy first birthday to us, love!

A paper may be thin, and easy to scratch on and be crumpled, however, it can still be straightened and fixed to pave way for a new chapter of love mixed with of happiness, and sadness.

Happy Anniversary

A 2018 Netflix movie called "Happy Anniversary" explored and gave us the story of a couple that was supposed to celebrate their third wedding anniversary. Sadly, it was not a happy one.

Directed by Jared Stern, his directorial debut, "Happy Anniversary" opened up with the woman saying to her man that she was "not happy". For a person who has been having a long-term relationship with somebody, that has got to be shattering. No person who invested his or her love deeply would be happy after hearing those words. However, those words should not be taken away from couples. Those words should be said one way or another.

"Not happy" does not always mean "I want to get away from you, I want to leave you, I don't love you anymore." Sometimes, it only means "there is something wrong that should be fixed." Long-term relationships are messy, a crazy roller coaster ride with lots of bumps, curves, and ups and downs, but the thing that makes it worthwhile is this: You are in that roller coaster ride with that someone you love deeply sitting beside you and taking the challenges that come along in the ride with you.

Personally, I have a lot to think about this very topic. Not that I am unsure with my love, but because I have numerous wrongdoings and shortcomings, I do not know if I am still worth her love.

I wanted her to change into the person that I wanted her to be - to be just as mature and to be the same person as I am. However, that thinking was wrong in all aspects. I should not be wanting her to change, I should just accept her as she was when I decided that I would court her and ask for a chance to love her. Here's what I just learned - both of us had our own shares of wrongdoings, shortcomings, and personal issues, among other flaws. I should not blame her for that and force her to change, and vice versa. Accepting that love could still be perfect despite the imperfections, that would be a clear sign of true love. Love would do the work eventually.

Another thing that I should be very sorry for, I wanted love to be convenient. However, love would never be convenient at all times. Love would be expressed and shown best when it would be inconvenient. When there would be hassle, stress, and irritations for you, and you would still go all the way just to show love to that person, that would be a clear sign that you truly love that person.

I have broken most of the promises I made, however, as long as I have the time, I would try to replace those promises with legit actions to let you know I would still love you no matter what.

Still, love is on its way. Love is still going to keep on loving you. I am sorry.

Happiness in a relationship is not forever because quarrels and misunderstandings are inevitable. Staying in a relationship is a decision you should make, just as happiness is a decision to look on the brighter side of things. Acceptance truly is the key.

Jonas Brothers' Cool: The Sequel to Burnin' Up

The follow-up single Cool was not only a follow up to "Sucker" but also to the Jonas Brothers 2008 hit single "Burnin' Up".

There were tons of references made in the song like the Post Malone lyrics, the Game of Thrones nod, the perfume, Kevin Jonas' guitar strap, and the flying V guitar, and more, but I would just be covering the ones that referenced the aforementioned 2008 hit single.

The new Jonas Brothers single started out with a conversation with another man while they were all sitting down, like the opening of "Burnin' Up" where Big Rob handed them the script.

There was also that "red Dress" lyric reference in the first stanza of "Cool", a nod to the famous line in the 2008 hit. Moreover, the trio was singing poolside once again.

For their latest single, Joe Jonas sported a thick mustache close to the one that Freddie Mercury had during the 1980s. He did not have to wear fake mustaches anymore like he did for "Burnin' Up" and another 2008 release, "Love Is On Its Way".

Joe Jonas definitely proved himself wrong when he said he could not grow a mustache.

"Cool" certainly felt like a song to chill out with for the summer. It also had the mood of a song from the Jonas LA soundtrack. Additionally, the music video would definitely fit as a sequel to the Miami Vice-parody, "Hot Tropic", in Joe's segment in "Burnin' Up". Even the fonts used, they looked the same!

After burnin' up, the Jonas Brothers would recommend for us to just be cool.

Jonas Brothers: Reunion 2012 Versus Reunion 2019

The reunion of the Jonas Brothers in 2019 was not a first time for them, and for us fans. Back in 2012, they already made quite a successful comeback, but not as successful as today.

After the Jonas Brothers finished their Fall Tour in 2010, they took a break and only performed together once in 2011. The concert was the Concert for Hope in March 2011. Soon after, they were on their solo ventures. Thank God for 2012, for that year, the Jonas Brothers released a short video clip of them producing some new sound, for a possible new song. In line with that, a new song surfaced entitled "Dance Until Tomorrow".

May 2012, Joe Jonas visited the Philippines for a few days due to a clothing line endorsement and promised to take his brothers with him back in the Philippines, hinting the possibility of a reunion! July 2012, in his 4th of July performance in Philadelphia, Joe finally talked about their upcoming reunion.

Eventually, Kevin Jonas had a TV show with his wife, Danielle, called "Married To Jonas" that featured their lives as a married couple. The show was also in line with the reunion of the trio. A reunion concert was set to happen on October 11, 2012, along with additional tour dates set in the Philippines, Singapore, Russia, and the United States.  The reunion concerts featured three new songs namely, "Let's Go", "First Time", and "Wedding Bells".

Now, what changes made the reunion in 2019 different from that one?

1. Similarly, the Jonas Brothers reunion had been surfacing over a year earlier. Photos of the Jonas Brothers filming something in Australia came up and shocked the world. Even though I thought that the filming was only for The Voice in  Australia wherein Joe was a coach, I was wishfully thinking for a reunion. Months later, the trio was spotted together again numerous times.

2. They announced their reunion with a bang via Sucker. The reunion in 2012 was different because the reunion was already announced months before the sold-out concert. Instead of making the fans wait for something scheduled, they made the fans wait for something that was not scheduled. That made their followers shocked, excited and surprised because the comeback was very unexpected. I was very much surprised, too. It was the morning of February 28, 2018, when I learned about the reunion and that there would be a new single released on the next day at midnight. There were also the "Hello Again" video and the "Carpool Karaoke" along with a whole week of guesting in the "The Late Late Show with James Corden", and appearances on different radio stations. The contents were just coming right at you but still could not get enough.

3. Much like in the 2012 reunion, they were linked to a TV show. There was thMarriedied To Jonas" in 2012 which was a reality show, and the "The Late Late Show with James Corden" in 2019 which was a talk show. What made the #LateLateJonas guesting better for me was the musical performances that they made like the parody of the "Year 3000", and the first ever TV performance of Sucker.

4. In their 2012 reunion concert, the Jonas Brothers released three new songs of different themes and played them in all of their concert dates from October up until their 2013 Summer Tour. The songs were "Let's Go", "First Time", and "Wedding Bells". However, they were just live performances of possible singles. For whatever reason, the trio never released them as a single. Among the three, only "First Time" was released as a single months after. They seemed to be not confident enough to do what they eventually did this time around with "Sucker".

5. Instead of having a big concert to announce their reunion, the Jonas Brothers went back to their roots and performed a short set of songs to surprised, and lucky fans in New York, Los Angeles, Atalanta, and the Penn State Bar. Tickets to those pop-up shows had to be won in a radio contest. You would surely know that the Jonas Brothers was successful in making a comeback when you see those jam-packed concert venues, like the one they played last April 6, 2019, in Minneapolis wherein they played a 19-song setlist.

We are so lucky to have the Jonas Brothers back again. It feels so good that they finally got their shit together, and for them, we did bear with them and waited for them to give us timeless music once again.

The Jonas Brothers are Back Together

It's 2019 and the Jonas Brothers are topping the music charts, and radio stations once again.

March 1, 2019, the Jonas Brothers announced their reunion in all of their social media accounts, along with a brand new single and music video, Sucker, which featured their vetter-halves as their on-screen partners and have gained 94 million views on YouTube, as of writing.

To further show the extremity of the attention that Sucker has got,  the last two singles that the Jonas Brothers released only has 27 million views (Pom Poms), and 9.3 million views (First Time).

After the announcement, the Jonas Brothers appeared on various radio shows and had a week of guesting in The Late Late Show hosted by James Corden wherein they did segments of the show including the Carpool Karaoke, and of course, the first TV performance of Sucker.

The Jonas Brothers also released a "director's cut" version of the Sucker music video, and a behind the scenes video. There have been lots of positive reviews about the song. Additionally, praises for the Jonas Brother's comeback have been overwhelming for they were one musical group that had been successful in making a comeback.

It had only been a month since they were reunited, and people were already saying they had done it successfully!

Another gift to the fans that they had was the series of pop-up shows where they played some of their hits like Burnin' Up, SOS, Lovebug, and When You Look Me In The Eyes among others, along with the new hit, Sucker.

But wait, there's more in store from the Jonas Brothers. They are releasing a brand new single, Cool, in a few hours (April 5, 2019) and the anticipation is really exhausting. Just for a few hours more, we are all going to hear what the Jonas Brothers prepared during their Miami visit a few weeks ago.
